Storyline :
Starr Carter is always exchanging between two universes: poor people, generally dark, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, for the most part white, private academy she goes to. The uneasy harmony between these universes is smashed when Starr observes the deadly shooting of her youth closest companion Khalil on account of a cop.
